Safety Clinic at Ironwood on August 28th, Grass Roots Tournament on August 29th
If you want to stay overnght you can enjoy the "primitive camping" at Ironwood on Saturday night and stay to ski in the tournament on Sunday
More details about the clinic will be distributed as the event gets closer. But for now here's a few basics:
- The clinic will last about 4 - 6 hours (depending on the ultimate number of people that sign up).
- Some time will be spent on land discussing safety items, some time will be spent in the water learning various water rescue techniques.
- The instructor will be Harley Wallace, a San Diego area skier who is a paramedic and one of the few people in Southern California that has the credentials to instruct one of these clinics.
- Cost will be approximately $20 - $25 per person. $15 goes straight to USA Water Ski. Any amount over $15 will be used to cover things such as boat gas, and gas for our instructor to drive up to Ironwood.
- Also, this date is the day before Ironwood's Summer Splash Tournament (a "grassroots" / Class F tournament), so if you're going to attend, please make a weekend out of it, and ski the tournament! The tournament is a lot of fun every year, and we always attract some first time tournament skiers, so it's great to have some experienced AWSA folks around to help make it a fun experience and show what a great time we have at tournaments.
If you are interested in attending, please email Chris McKown at chrismckown81@hotmail.com. Space will be somewhat limited, however, if there is great interest, we will do our best to track down additional safety equipment and instructional help to accommodate a larger group.

Attn Safety Directors (Third and final Call) & Coordinators (First and only Call), After this request, if no takers, I will be asking the Midwest Region for my needed Appointed Safety for Nationals. We are still in need of one "full tournament" or two "half tournament" appointed safety directors. The reason for this is that we will be in Wilmington, IL on a two lake site from 8/8 - 8/14 2010. If you are interested in a fun filled time with some really great people (the LOCs), please contact me ASAP. There are the usual hotel room, food and everyones favorite Ts & polos for the week. Do contact me if you have questions. We also need anyone that would like to just volunteer some quality hours with us during the tournament. You will get credit for working a Nationals with your volunteer work. Thanks...... Jim Babcock, Chief Safety

The trick runs from Regionals are posted here. We did did not get all the runs so we are missing a few. We are working on posting the scores.
A note from Scott Snape, chair of the AWSA Rules Committee
Some tournament sponsors have allowed skiers to ski more than one classification of tournament at a time, which is violation of Rule 1.02
Rule 1.02 "...A skier may not ski in more than one class in the same event in the same round at one tournament and may not ski more than three rounds in an event at a tournament..."
Examples include but are not limited to:
Skiing a round class C, in slalom until they miss and then letting them continue
that round under class F.
Skiing a round class C, and if the skier does not like their score, then switching
the classification for that round to class F.
It is the intention that a skier declares which class he is skiing for that round before he takes the water. Changes after the fact will not be allowed.
Judging Tips & Problems Discussion - Courtesy of Linda Hockenbery
Linda has added to her list of tips and suggestions. Check it out in the Official's Tower section.
Attention Tournament Sponsors
Please be reminded that ANY changes in officials, format, events or the number
of rounds must be approved by the EVP prior to the start of the tournament.
These requests should be brought up no later than 3 days prior to the start
of a tournament to allow time for review and approval.
Your area council person should be the first contact in this process as well.
Thank you,
Barry Young
