Sample Scenarios

 Slalom

  1. Skier falls before the entrance gate.
Skier does not continue.  No boat time is needed.  Should give 0 time if close to the course. (10.04b)

  2. Skier gets a re-ride, needs soap to get into bindings.  No soap in the boat.
It could be considered equipment failure and judges can grant three minutes (10.15).  To avoid the problem, judge should bring some soap.

  3. Skier notices his binding is broken between passes.
Three minutes starts when judges agree to grant it (10.15).  Bring a stop-watch.

  4. Skier wants to change KX after 2 passes
    OK (p 93)

  5. Skier wants to change PX
Not OK – can’t do it.  PX changes may effect boat time. (p93)

  6. Skier wants to change KX for the second time in one ride
Can’t do it.  Only one change is allowed.

  7. Skier is not ready when the boat comes to the starting dock
    Pull the next skier (7.07a).

  8. Skier is celebrating having just made 35 off for the first time in a tournament and falls
    The ride is over (10.04b).

  9. The skier gets around 6 ball and back inside the boat guides before the exit gates but the tournament supplied tow line breaks as the skier is going out the gates.
Skier gets a re-ride with protected score of 6.

  10. The skier skis back inside the boat guides with slack rope but cannot hang on to the handle when the rope tightens up.
Skier scores a full buoy. (10.12c)

  11. Due to tournament equipment problem, more than 10 minutes passes before the boat is ready to pull the skier on a re-ride.
Skier has the option of taking a warm-up pass in the opposite direction from the re-ride pass, score is protected. (10.10d(4))

  12. Skier falls on the warm up pass in question #13.
Pick him up and proceed with the re-ride.

Jump

  1. Skier turns toward the ramp but decides not to jump.  He drifts over the wake and passes between the boat path and the ramp.
Skier continues.  He’s disqualified only if he’s cutting past the boat wake. (9.18)

  2. Skier lands, throws the handle and skis to shore on last jump.
Counts as a jump if he’s in control in the boat judge’s opinion.

  3. Skier gets a reride and wants to increase the boat speed on the reride
Reride has to be same speed (9.10d)

  4. Skier doesn’t have a helmet
    Must have a helmet (12.05).

  5. Skier has so much slack that he can’t put down one of his skis or he would get caught in the rope.  After waiting for the slack he couldn't hold onto the handle.
This is ruled a fall because he didn't have control of everything. (8.06, 8.07)

  6. Skier falls outside course, boat not in the timing course yet.
    No time needed.

  7. Skier falls in course, boat not in the timing course
    No time needed (9.09a)

  8. Skier falls in course, boat in the timing course.
If the skier balks or falls before the ramp only the first segment time is needed and the tolerance is increased by 0.05 seconds.  Both times are needed if the fall is on landing (9.09a, 9.10)

  9. First segment time is fast and the requested speed is below maximum for division.  (time not faster than fast tolerance for division maximum speed).
Optional reride with protected score. (9.09e)

 Trick

  1. Skier requests speed adjustment after 50m buoys then asks for a reride for incorrect speed.  Cannot request a reride for incorrect speed in this case (11.06).

  2. Skier requests speed adjustment before 50m buoys then asks for a reride for incorrect speed.
Skier can request reride.   Judges must decide if it is justified. (11.08a-5)
